Artwork Submission Large Format Printing

Special considerations for: Signage - Print On Demand

The minimum resolution for output on out large format printer is 72 dpi. This equates to minimum file sizes of roughly 2mb for an A4 file, 4mb for A3, 8mb for A2, 16mb for A1 or 32mb for A0. For high resolution printing, ie. for small or close-up work, a higher resolution file may be submitted (up to 360 dpi).

File types are listed here in order of preference:

EPS Files

EPS, or Embedded PostScript files can be either rastered images or vector graphics, or a combination of both. Many software packages are able to export files in this format. Remember that any fonts need to be converted to vector graphics before export.

Artwork submitted for Printed Vinyl with a Contour-Cut must be produced in accordance with these specific guidelines.

TIFF Files

Tagged Image File Format, or TIFF files are for rastered graphics or photographs. They can be embedded in EPS files and used in Quark XPress documents. They retain their good quality when compressed.

Adobe Illustrator Files

Please convert all fonts to 'Outlines' and make sure that any images are embedded. We can read Illustrator files up to version 10. Macintosh Format Only.

Macromedia Freehand Files

We can read Freehand files up to version 10. Please convert all fonts to 'Paths' and make sure that any images are embedded. Macintosh Format Only.

PDF Files

When Creating PDF, or Portable Document Format files, please follow these guidelines:

  • Generate files using Adobe Acrobat Distiller - 'PDF Writer' is not suitable for creating PDF files for imaging.
  • Use the latest version of Adobe's printer drivers, available FREE at adobe.com.
  • Use the Acrobat Distiller PPD file located in the Xtras folder in the Distiller folder in Acrobat 4.
  • Embed all fonts in the Postcript file - this ensures that Distiller uses exactly the same fonts that were used for creating the layout.
  • Use the 'Print' settings for artwork submission.
  • Use the 'Screen' settings for 'proofing'.

Quark XPress Files

When submitting Quark files for output on our Large Format Printer, all fonts need to be 'converted to boxes' and bitmapped images should be included (as a backup) on your disc or in your folder.

If you prefer, you may submit artwork as a plain Quark XPress file, making sure that you have followed the guidelines above, ie. converted your text to boxes and included your images, however, a small artwork conversion charge may apply. We can use Quark files up to version 4.0. Macintosh Format Only.
