Special considerations for: Large Format Printing
- Print On Demand
In general, vector-based file formats (ie. ai, eps) are preferable to
bitmapped formats (ie. bmp, jpg, tif).
Vinyl Print & Contour Cut |
A file containing both a rasterised image (the
printed image) and vector information (the cut
lines) needs to be supplied for this particular service. The most
suitable file format is EPS, although we can read
native Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia
Freehand files with embedded bitmapped images.
- If you are using Illustrator or Freehand, create a new layer
with your cut lines on.
- Include a 3mm bleed between the cut line and the edge of your
bitmapped image.
- For small or close-up work (ie. sticky labels), use a higher
resolution image.
- Save your files as EPS.

EPS Files |
EPS, or Embedded PostScript
files can be either rastered images or vector graphics, or a combination
of both. Convert all fonts to vectors and make sure images are embedded. |
Adobe Illustrator Files |
Please convert all fonts to 'Outlines' and
make sure that any images are embedded. We can read Illustrator
files up to version 10. Macintosh Format Only |
Macromedia Freehand Files |

Please convert all fonts to 'Paths' and make sure that any images
are embedded. Macintosh Format Only |
PDF Files |
When Creating PDF, or Portable
Document Format files, please follow these guidelines:
- Generate files using Adobe Acrobat Distiller
- 'PDF Writer' is not suitable for creating PDF files for imaging.
- Use the latest version of Adobe's printer drivers, available
FREE at adobe.com.
- Use the Acrobat Distiller PPD file located in the Xtras folder
in the Distiller folder in Acrobat 4.
- Embed all fonts in the Postcript file - this ensures that Distiller
uses exactly the same fonts that were used for creating the layout.
- Use the 'Print' settings for artwork submission.
- Use the 'Screen' settings for 'proofing'.
